New Podcast: Mental Health in the Rural Sector

We’ve just launched our latest podcast focusing on mental health in the rural and farming sector. In this special episode, we had the privilege of interviewing a special guest, Alex Tambourides from Mind, the mental health charity, who brings extensive experience in mental health support tailored to rural and farming communities.

The discussion explores the challenges prevalent in rural communities, including isolation, multi-generational farms, and the adoption of harmful coping mechanisms, as well as the interplay between farm stresses, family pressures, and contextual factors such as public perception and policy changes.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s survey of over 15,000 people in the sector revealed that the farming community experiences lower levels of mental wellbeing compared to the UK population as a whole. So, it’s crucial to shine a light on these issues and explore ways to provide support.

We encourage you to tune in to the podcast and share it with your networks to help raise awareness about mental health challenges for those living and working in rural and farming communities.
